Cognitive Processing Therapy
CPT or cognitive behavioral therapy normally lasts for 12 weeks, and individuals are counseled between 60-90 minutes per weekly session. Prolonged Exposure Therapy
Prolonged Exposure Therapy, or PE is a series of sessions designed to help overcome individuals if they have been avoiding things that remind them of the traumatic event. PE general involves between 8-15 sessions, with each session averaging around 90 minutes each. During the initial stages of treatment, your therapist will ask you to do breathing techniques to ease your anxiety when you think about what happened in the years prior. You’ll also be asked to make a list of things you have been avoiding and how you can eventually learn to face them.
