Moving can be stressful, according to Telegraph.co.uk. Our team has been in the business for over 10 years with several seasoned professionals in management including long distance drivers, our internal staff and loading/delivering teams.
Here are some combined tips from all the professionals here at Burly Boyz Moving and Storage, to hopefully help you avoid scams, financial distress or destroyed belongings:
1. Make sure the company you choose is reputable with great Google Reviews.
2. Ensure the same company is accredited with the Better Business Bureau.
3. Also make sure the company has been in business for a good amount of time.
Once these 3 boxes have been checked,
you’ve narrowed down your choice in moving companies. From here, choose what
company is the best fit for you. Ask the following questions:
1. Are there any hidden fees or surcharges I should know about?
2. Is there a possibility of the estimate changing drastically?
3. What is included in the moving services you offer?
The reason these questions are important is because some moving companies offer
things such as disassembling and re-assembling your furniture, blanketing and
protection of your furniture, and of course all the labour. While some
companies do not offer these things, or simply just the labour. For long
distance moves, some might charge for the scale fee, some may not.
The onus is on the customer to do their research. Do not simply accept the
lowest price offered. There are several major van lines in business who have
very poor ratings with Google and are not accredited with the Better Business
Bureau who will entice customers with a very low price because they need the
business. Only after the job has been completed, the customer’s invoice double
and belongings damaged, will the customer realize the predicament they’ve
gotten themselves into.
Do your research and do not take the lowest cost option, as this will be
troublesome for you in the long run. Only after verifying the integrity of each
company, their reviews and Better Business Bureau accreditation should you even
consider pursuing an estimate.
If a company is simply asking how many bedrooms you have, and not conducting an
itemized inventory – your invoice will not properly reflect the estimate given.
There are no ‘averages’ in terms of household belongings, so how can someone
present an estimate based on how many rooms you have? If the moving company
scrutinizes your inventory (by phone, in person, or e-mail) then chances are
the estimate will be more accurate. Item ownership is so different between
people, ensure that your goods are being accounted for in the estimation
process.
