Often times, you will develop the same or similar skills while volunteering that you would in a work environment. These skills include time management, organization, task prioritization, and teamwork.
Finally, adding volunteer experience to your resume can be a great conversation starter! If you don’t have enough work experience to talk about, kick off the conversation by mentioning how important your volunteer experience has been.
How Do I Add Volunteer to My Resume?
Volunteer work go in few different places on your resume. If you have a strong work history, add it in at the bottom. If you don’t have a strong work history, volunteering can even take the place of it! For each situation, make sure to include your role while volunteering, the organization you worked with, and briefly describe some of the primary responsibilities that you held. Be sure to highlight some of the skills and qualities in each experience that will align with the job opening you are applying for. Showing that you are a good fit for the job is easily done with either work history, or volunteer experience!
