If you’re looking for an unforgettable experience in Edinburgh that’s both thrilling and educational, Escape The Past offers a one-of-a-kind way to explore the city’s darker, more mysterious side. Far from a typical escape room company, Escape The Past (visit the Escape Room Edinburgh website) blends immersive storytelling, live acting, and mind-bending puzzles with rich, authentic historical detail—transporting you directly into the heart of Edinburgh’s past.
A Journey Through Time, Not Just a Game
Unlike standard escape rooms that rely purely on fictional scenarios, Escape The Past draws its inspiration from real events, people, and locations in Edinburgh’s history. Every room and trail is rooted in careful historical research, making the experiences feel not only thrilling but genuinely meaningful.
Their storylines involve grave robbing, malpractice, and unsolved mysteries—echoes of the city’s murky and often macabre past. Whether you’re investigating a Victorian medical scandal or unraveling a criminal conspiracy, you’ll quickly find yourself immersed in a living, breathing slice of history.
Two Ways to Play: Escape Rooms & City Trails
Escape The Past offers two unique types of experiences:
1. Escape Rooms:
Perfect for those who love a hands-on, atmospheric challenge. Groups are placed in elaborately decorated rooms filled with historically accurate props, sound effects, and live actors who interact with participants to drive the story forward. It’s not just about escaping—it’s about solving complex mysteries and altering the outcome of your own story. These indoor experiences typically last around an hour and can accommodate up to 15 participants at a time.
2. City Trails:
For those who want to explore the city itself, the outdoor City Trails offer a hybrid of treasure hunt, historical walking tour, and puzzle adventure. Armed with a satchel of props, maps, and a smartphone, you’ll solve clues while visiting real historic sites throughout Edinburgh. These trails typically take around two hours and can be enjoyed by groups of up to 30 people.
