Moving home is often a stressful time for all the family. To make the process of moving home as easy as possible, here are a few tips for preparing you for moving day.
Get Rid of Unwanted Furniture & Possessions
When you enlist the services of a moving company, the overall quantity and weight of your possessions will affect your final moving bill. Therefore, it is better to be selective when choosing what possessions you wish to transport. The fewer items you take to your new home, the better it will be. We don’t necessarily recommend you get rid of everything that you hold dear.
When getting rid of unwanted items, you can donate perfectly usable items to charity, or to other family members. You could even sell unwanted items online and put the proceeds towards your moving costs. This is a good way to reduce the amount of money you will spend on the relocation.
Enlist the Help of Friends and Family
If you have family and friends nearby, maybe you could ask them to help you clear out your home and help move stuff for you? This will reduce the stress, but make sure you give your willing helpers plenty of tea and biscuits! They will know that moving home can be a stressful experience, so they will likely do all they can to make the process of moving as good as it can be for you.
Set Targets & Deadlines
The last thing you want to do is to be preparing to move and not being ready for the day the moving company arrives. This is why it is important that you set yourself deadlines for completing certain tasks. For example, you may wish to have a target of having the attic in your home cleared out 3 weeks before you are scheduled to move. By setting realistic targets, this will minimize the stress and anxiety you will feel prior to moving.
Ensure Items are Safely Packed
It is crucial that your possessions arrive at your new home in the same condition in which they left. Therefore, it is recommended that you take care and invest time and effort in ensuring items are packed with due care and attention to guard against any breakages.
These are just some of the tips we would advise to help you with your move. Do you have any other advice?
