Getting To Know Your Vape – A Quick Guide To Understanding And Cleaning Your E-Cigarette

Have you ever wondered how your vape actually works? Are you looking down at your device that used to be incredibly dependable and wondering why it’s not quite working as well as it should be? Are you tired of using the same old E-Cigarettes and looking to move onto a mod that feels more you? With a better understanding of how your vape works, you will be able to take better care of it and have a clearer idea of what you want to change. Let’s start with the basics…

So, How Does It Work?

How does a vape or e-cigarette work? Well, it’s pretty simple. Inside the vape are three main elements: the fluid, the battery and the atomiser. The latter is comprised of a wick and coil which, when powered by the battery, begins to heat up. This in turn heats the fluid, which is converted to vapour. The wick in the atomiser is how the amount of liquid that comes into contact with the heated coil is regulated, absorbing the e-liquid.

The e-liquid itself is made up of a few basic components. In a lot of cases it contains nicotine, but will always contain vegetable glycerine (or VG), propylene glycol (PG), water, and whichever flavouring you choose to go with. If you opt for a fluid with a greater quantity of PG, you’ll be getting more flavour from the juice. If you instead opt for one with a greater amount of VG, you’ll be getting a thicker liquid that produces a bigger cloud.

When you inhale through the drip piece, or mouth piece, the liquid will hit the wick, which in turn places it next to the coil, and it will heat up and convert into vapour. The bigger the inhale, the great amount of vapour it will produce.

How Long Do The Components Last For?

With a vape, the two things that you need to keep an eye on are the liquid and the coil. Coils will get dirty and worn out as you use them, and you will need to change them regularly. If you don’t, you will notice that you’re getting less vapour and the flavour will be getting increasingly unpleasant, so you won’t exactly be short on warning signs. There are a few ways you can look after your coils to make sure they last longer. You can prime new coils for use by dropping some of the fluid into the holes to make sure that they won’t be burning before the fluid hits it on your first inhale, and take a dry hit or two before your first proper vape. You can also clean the coils with hot water to get rid of any nasty residue, and allow them to air-dry before re-use.

Next to the coils, the other most important good practice to observe to ensure a good long life for your vape is cleaning the liquid tank. Residue will start to build up as you use it, and you’ll know when you’ve got a gunk situation when you start to taste old flavours in your vapour. So, every week or two, make sure that you are emptying and carefully cleaning the fluid tank using some warm water. If you have left it too long and need to do a deep clean, then you can use vinegar, dish soap or rubbing alcohol to really get in there and clear the gunk away.

What’s The Difference Between The Devices?

Anyone who uses a vape will know that there is not just one device. We have come a long way from the days of the e-cigarette, now there are several different vaping options to choose from, depending on how regularly you vape and what you want to get out of it. Disposable vape devices are available which are easy to use and come pre-loaded with the flavour you select. AV Pods are simple and discreet, reliable and effective for those who don’t want anything too flashy. Vape pens are one of the most popular options as they are incredibly versatile and allow you to mix and match flavours of fluid for a personalised vaping experience. Then, there are sub-ohms and mods, which tend to be what the more experienced vapers go for. They offer a considerably more potent, powerful cloud. If you want to browse the different types of devices, Aqua Vape has an incredible selection of kits with plenty of information to help you find what you’re looking for.

What About Liquids?

When it comes to liquid flavours, you are never going to be short on choice. Whether you’re looking for a vapour that recreates the experience of smoking, or looking for a minty fresh option to keep your breath smelling good, or you want to dive into the world of fruity flavours with berry, mango, banana or grape, the world is your oyster. There’s cola, there’s coffee, there’s liquorice and strawberry donut. Whatever flavour you have a taste for, there’ll be a vape fluid for you.
